Kick vs Twitch for clippers

Last updated

Kick and Twitch are different sites, with different clip buttons. JP Clips tracks Kick channels an admin has added. It does not track Twitch. Kick's help articles set the clip rules, JP Clips collects those Kick clips, and other tools name Twitch on their own sites. Join discord.gg/jpclips for the Kick channels. The home page is the short product summary.

What JP Clips will collect

An admin adds a Kick channel and classifies it as UK or US. The bot collects clips that already exist on that channel and posts them in Discord. Channels are free to view and read-only for ordinary members. You press Edit and Download and download a render. Free is 5 renders per UTC day. Trial is 20 per UTC day for 14 days. Premium is what includes the website, and the prices are on the plans.

A Twitch channel cannot be added to that list. /requeststreamer is for a Kick streamer suggestion, and approval is still not automatic. If your work is your own Twitch VOD, or another person's Twitch clips, JP Clips will not see them. Use Twitch's own clip tools, or a product whose public pages say they import Twitch. Do not expect a Discord channel in this server to fill with Twitch.

What Kick publishes about clips

Kick's create-clips article says clips are 10 to 180 seconds, made from a livestream or a VOD by any logged-in viewer or by the streamer. You use the Clip icon or the C key, set the length with a slider, add a title, and publish. You can download the clip. Sending it to chat is not available when the source was a VOD. Only the channel owner can delete a clip. A ban from their chat blocks clipping. There is a 60-second cooldown between clips. The maximum of 180 seconds is stated for desktop and mobile.

Their troubleshooting article says the clip button can be missing because the streamer turned clipping off, because you are logged out, because the stream just started, or because of a chat ban. It also says you can usually only clip a live stream. The create-clips article says VODs can be clipped. If the button is missing, the channel in front of you is the one that matters.

Kick's VOD article says verified channels keep stream replays for up to 30 days, limited to 30 replays, and non-verified channels keep them for 7 days, limited to 16 replays. When the replay is gone, you cannot make a new clip of that broadcast on Kick. Clips that were already published can remain. JP Clips only collects clips, not the raw replay. A streamer who disables clipping, or who deletes clips, leaves the bot with nothing new to post.

Twitch stays on Twitch

Twitch's own rules live on its clips article. Kick's published numbers are the clip lengths for Kick. There is no Twitch length, VOD lifetime, or payout copied across. On Kick, JP Clips can help after a tracked channel already has a public clip. On Twitch, you are outside this bot. Posting either kind of clip is an upload you do yourself. Payment questions for a Kick clip go to the money guide, which is Clipping.com's campaign.
